Lulu James: Be Safe / Stuck

Nearly the end of another year where yet again most of the music that has blown me away is made by women (and I endeavor to be an equal opportunities listener), when a 21 year old voice from South Shields steals the whole show. Blazing a scorched soul trail through dark and smokey post dub-step atmospherics,  Lulu James, in her own words makes ’21st Century Soul’, and aided by producers like Domzilla for her debut Rope Mirage E.P. earlier in the year, and now with Black Butter Records stable mates Hostage & Kidnap Kid on the stunning Be Safe, the flip side of which is the equally stellar Stuck , is setting out her stall as a major new talent. Mark my words. But most importantly get your ears round these if you haven’t yet.
