Friday Freebie – Elastic Sleep

There is so much great new music coming out of Cork at the moment and we happily revert your attention back to You Only Live Twice by Elastic Sleep. Featured on the show a few weeks back, the former James Bond tune originally sung by Nancy Sinatra has been reimagined as the perfect slice of shoegaze dreampop that it was perhaps always destined to be. Released on Fifa Records as a precursor to the now highly anticipated debut album by Elastic Sleep due in early 2014, it is this weeks Friday Freebie and is available to download below.

Friday Freebie – The Late David Turpin

We were so happy to have The Late David Turpin join us in studio today to talk about his recently released extraordinary album We Belong Dead. An esoteric concept record with a pop sensibility it tells the story of love in a time where humans are extinct and animals prevail. Sonically soft and warm it takes musical cues from 80’s electro but the voice and beautifully layered vocals are the albums centerpiece. Ahead of his Dublin gig tomorrow Saturday 23rd at The Workmans Club, The Late David Turpin has offered album cut Like Bird And Beast as our Friday Freebie. It features the vocals of Cathy Davey and is available to download below.

Friday Freebie – Terriers 13/13

Back in May Terriers first featured as our Friday Freebie and now the Dublin duo return with two new tracks. Both 13/13 and For You can be downloaded for free below to be ingested aurally at regular intervals thenceforth. While the dirty creeping late night house wig outs conjure the after hours they also work wonders day or night especially via headphones. Terriers‘ new Baku EP feat 13/13 is imminent. Get stuck in now.

Friday Freebie – Replete

Replete

Fresh from having woed new fans at Hard Working Class Hereos, me included, Kilkenny man Peter Lawlor aka Replete has just released a new cut into the world. Never This Way really impresses in its late night kicked back vibe and suggests further great things for the future. We are delighted to offer it as this weeks Friday Freebie. Download Never This Way below.

Friday Freebie – Kobina

With Hard Working Class Heroes 2013 fast approaching there is no better time to be catching up with some of the Irish music scene that may have previously passed you by. If like me you failed to hear of Kobina til now then you’re in for a treat. The Dublin producer has been in action for less than a year but has already landed several impressive support slots as well as a set at Longitude Festival during the summer. Stay Right Now clearly suggests we should be hearing lots more from Kobina in the future. As this weeks Friday Freebie it’s available to download below..

Friday Freebie 30/8/2013 Cate Le Bon Feat. Perfume Genius

Welsh artist Cate Le Bon is probably best known for contributing to the Neon Neon album. Now based in LA and working with the same producer as Devandra Banheart and Joanna Newson, her new LP ‘Mug Museum’ will be out in November and features from Sweet Baboo, Nick Murray or White Fence and the lovely duet with Perfume Genius which you can download for free below.

Friday Freebie – PINS

Manchester four-piece PINS have unveiled a brand new song from their Bella Union-released debut album Girls Like Us. A lithe two and a half minutes, the echoing monotones of ‘Lost Lost Lost’ induce chills like a PJ Harvey mantra. The song perfectly showcases the stark, analogue sound of the album, and the MP3 has been made available as a free download from the Bella Union Soundcloud.

Friday Freebie – Glass Gang

Endearingly dark and creepy, comprising various elements of shoegaze and electro, the music of Glass Gang has been released, track by track on their Tumblr over the last few weeks. They have also taken to revealing a little more of themselves with each new tune. So far we know that they are three dudes based in Brooklyn, who like boots and wearing mostly black.

The Fall is this weeks Friday Freebie and is the third single Glass Gang have made available for free. You can grab it from the Soundcloud player.

Friday Freebie – Holy Ghost

NYC duo Holy Ghost‘s 2011 self titled debut album was wall to wall with good time disco boogies, and in the run up to a September release for the follow up Dynamics they have made a non album track available as a free download. Released on DFA Records it has many of the production tropes we associate with its producer James Murphy, which in lesser hands could add up to a hodge podge of ideas but on Teenagers In Heat retains a fidgety charm.

Grab the free download below.

Friday Freebie: Orquesta

Dublin producer Orquesta has already released four EP’s, all available for free , but he first came to my attention with last year’s  reworking of The Beach Boy’s 1980’s hit Kokomo. A percussion centric tropicalia sound prevades across all I have heard so Orquesta’s music definitely comes into its own in the summertime. New tune Qingming is no different, an airy instrumental that snaps, crackles and pops, but with plenty of bounce, it bodes very well for the future. While Orquesta is busy impressing in NYC at The Red Bull Music Academy you can download Qingming right here via Dummy Mag
