Friday Freebie – Elastic Sleep

There is so much great new music coming out of Cork at the moment and we happily revert your attention back to You Only Live Twice by Elastic Sleep. Featured on the show a few weeks back, the former James Bond tune originally sung by Nancy Sinatra has been reimagined as the perfect slice of shoegaze dreampop that it was perhaps always destined to be. Released on Fifa Records as a precursor to the now highly anticipated debut album by Elastic Sleep due in early 2014, it is this weeks Friday Freebie and is available to download below.

Friday Freebie – The Late David Turpin

We were so happy to have The Late David Turpin join us in studio today to talk about his recently released extraordinary album We Belong Dead. An esoteric concept record with a pop sensibility it tells the story of love in a time where humans are extinct and animals prevail. Sonically soft and warm it takes musical cues from 80’s electro but the voice and beautifully layered vocals are the albums centerpiece. Ahead of his Dublin gig tomorrow Saturday 23rd at The Workmans Club, The Late David Turpin has offered album cut Like Bird And Beast as our Friday Freebie. It features the vocals of Cathy Davey and is available to download below.

Friday Freebie – Terriers 13/13

Back in May Terriers first featured as our Friday Freebie and now the Dublin duo return with two new tracks. Both 13/13 and For You can be downloaded for free below to be ingested aurally at regular intervals thenceforth. While the dirty creeping late night house wig outs conjure the after hours they also work wonders day or night especially via headphones. Terriers‘ new Baku EP feat 13/13 is imminent. Get stuck in now.

Friday Freebie – Replete

Fresh from having woed new fans at Hard Working Class Hereos, me included, Kilkenny man Peter Lawlor aka Replete has just released a new cut into the world. Never This Way really impresses in its late night kicked back vibe and suggests further great things for the future. We are delighted to offer it as this weeks Friday Freebie. Download Never This Way below.

Friday Freebie – Glass Gang

Endearingly dark and creepy, comprising various elements of shoegaze and electro, the music of Glass Gang has been released, track by track on their Tumblr over the last few weeks. They have also taken to revealing a little more of themselves with each new tune. So far we know that they are three dudes based in Brooklyn, who like boots and wearing mostly black.

The Fall is this weeks Friday Freebie and is the third single Glass Gang have made available for free. You can grab it from the Soundcloud player.

Friday Freebie 05/04/13: Splashh

Made up of an Aussie, a Brit and two Kiwis, Splashh have just recently signed to the well respected US indie label Kanine Records, home of Grizzly Bear and Chairlift. NME described ‘Sun Kissed Bliss‘ as sounding like: Bobby Gillespie flicking disco biscuits into J Mascis’ mouth across Stephen Malkmus’ kitchen table. Although that description may reflect music journalism poorly, don’t let it put you off listening to this band. It is a bit of a 90s revival fest, but it’s making Summer and festival season feel just that little bit closer. The band’s debut album ‘Comfort’ is set to be released in June.

Friday Freebie 15/03/13: Weval

Weval: Out Of The Game

Lots of great electronic music coming out of Holland at the moment and we love what the Atomnation label have giving us so far this year, so are delighted that this weeks Friday Freebie is courtesy of  Applescal label mates Weval. The Dutch producers release the Half Age EP next week but right now the lead track Out Of The Game can be downloaded here for free right now.

Friday Freebie 08/03/2013

In an attempt to brighten up a terribly grey Friday, this week’s Freebie is Bibio‘s new slice ‘Á tout á l’heure’. We’ve been impressed by his head bop enticing tunes before such as ‘Lover’s Carvings‘ and ‘K is for Kelson‘ and this one is no different. His new album ‘Silver Wilkinson‘ is out on 14th May on Warp Records.

Download it for free right here.

Ed Droste of Grizzly Bear and Robin Pecknold of Fleet Foxes Collaboration

It is pretty much a match made in heaven alright. Both bands make music which is harmony laden, magnificently crafted and beautifully arranged.  Robin released the aptly titled Three Song EP as a free download, one song of which is a collaboration with Ed Drose of Grizzly Bear. I’ll admit to finding Grizzly Bear much more interesting as a band, especially live but their vocals mesh together in a really lovely way on this track. Perhaps Mr. Droste is giving Pecknold on how to wow the crowds at the Harmonic Festival in Cork during the summer as he and his band did last year.
